Know Your Role and Shut Your Mouth (unless you're doing something about it)!!
If you ever need a truer example of balance to the natural order of things then just go ahead and get on a roll. Come into a little money, like a bonus or inheritance. Hit a hot streak at work where your shit is really clicking and you're on your game. Simply watch for life feeling like it's going a little TOO smoothly.
Am I bitching? Hell no! You can't appreciate the fried gold without the turd pies. That's just how it works. I understand the natural order. I'm ultimately okay with it because I understand that no amount of bitching I do will change a damn thing. It just won't.
The only thing that will change things in life for you is hard work and, as they say, OWNING YOUR SHIT!! If there is one thing that I have learned from years of fucking it up via procrastination (definitely my favorite sin) it's that you have to get off of your ass and take care of the problem eventually.
So, here's the scenario: in the last week I had to put my car in the shop, my house got hit by a nasty storm (roof damage and a downed fence), my dog's ears are infected despite our best efforts, I was moved out of the department I've been running for over a year, & my daughter just had an emergency appendectomy. Can we all agree that it is a pretty shitty week? I think so.
Here's the rub, though- most of these problems had a silver lining. The change at work presents a new set of challenges and things to learn. The car was a cheap fix (only a couple hundred bucks). If it weren't for Gracie's bum appendix we wouldn't know about a couple of pencil size "pre-hernias" that she has had in her groin since birth (the doc discovered them during the surgery). The dog needs a checkup anyways. We came out with some of the lightest damage in our neighborhood........and you can't do a damn thing about an Act of God anyways.
It's about perspective, folks. How are you choosing to view things? Are you really even trying to get what you can out of it or are you rolling over and dying? There is a balance to all things, but it's ultimately up to you how you will roll with it.
You're going to get shit flung at you by the monkeys of life either way.
